I investigate the body, a body that is both means and end. The body is at once concrete—physical—and full of mystery and meaning.

The body—as we understand it now, here—expresses a duality (physiology/emotion; rationality/irrationality) that can also move toward synthesis, because it simply contains it from the beginning. I try to learn this synthesis from the body, from bodies.

I observe bodies (mine, yours, theirs) as sites of confrontation between what seems rationally intelligible and what seems inscrutable; between what centuries of scientific and humanistic inquiry have already deciphered, and what still eludes us.

I investigate the body. Through movement. But before movement, through many devices, mostly narrative and discursive (when not self-narrative and reflective), so as to then deposit thought about the body back into the body that generated it.

Every story, reflection, and question of the individual body is a vantage point on collective history. The body is a link between the self and the many.

Sociologists and anthropologists have theorized this. I am creating a practice to embody these theoretical concepts, to bring them down into the body—which is both means and end.
